I remember that LZ all too well, I was Bob Pearson's PP and we quite possibly were the 1st ship into the LZ, couldn't land because of conditions but also because bodies were piled too high, It really wasn't improved for a stable landing until the battle was over. A Lt. pleaded with us to bring back water and flame throwers only, we took all the wounded we could carry and were back fron Dak To within pretty close to a 1/2 hour. That brave Lt. was on top of the pile with his brains still draining. I made AC as the battle ended, just in time to head for FOB II ( the NVA simply disappeared ) and took most of their dead and wounded with them, I haven't been too good with Thanksgiving since. That indeed is a 1st flight aircraft. The VFW has a very good Vid on the whole battle, quite graffic but very accurate, lotsa interviews. Sorry guys, that one still seems like yesterday.
