Yeah, I did that... on the deck we called it... I remember hitting one of
those trees that seemed to zig when Festus zagged... kind of stalled the
Loach a bit and then just ran right over it... then the story of our
captured sampan which we strapped to the skids and took back to Holloway.
Those things are remarkably heavy, solid mahogony I think.. dunno whatever
happen to that... there is a picture I put on the photo page of tree top
scrapes along the bottom of a Huey... that happens to be pre-SCORPION in
Dak To, but we brushed a few in our travels... flew in a Huey upside down
once... impossible you say? Well, it happened. Screwed the horizon all to
hell... I have a photo of a Huey speedo at 160 knots, about 20 knots passed
the redline following a Cobra into a crazy gun run shakeing... monkeys, lots of
monkeys, and orangatans, tigers, water buffalo, those huge jungle elk,
elephants... did you ever shoot those flachete rockets? We took out some
gooks along with their water buffaloes with one of those, but in general I
don't think they were near as effective as mini-guns... took out a huge
wild pig with a mini-gun once... took him back and ate him... I remember he
was kind of greasy and gamey, but had a good time at the bbq... Tear gas,
lots of tear gas... my MOS was actually Chemical Staff Specialist so I got
to play with tear gas in vast quantities including drum drops out the the
back of Chinooks, Agents Orange, Blue and White really pissed them off if
you sprayed their marijuana, flaming fougasse, and of course Airborne
Personnel Detection (Snoopy) which was actually a condensation nuclei
detector. Lots of memories, even though I think my mind has shut a lot of
it out... the burning hooches, free fire zones, body bags, dust offs,
jungle rot, dead buddies, "crispy critters", ... lot of ugliness... I was
young too... turned 21 in Dak To under fire Nov 6, 1968... no fly that
day... the air force came in their voodoos and toasted them with napalm
then of course buzzed the runway to blow out our ear drums... yeah, loved
those fly boys.

Did you have one of those signs in your ship that said something like "No
inflight movies will be shown, but action packed war scenes can be seen out
each door."? Wasn't that the Truth?
