Re: For Dave Silk - Re: Mean M2

Hi Tom

I am pretty sure that I remember you. You were a soft spoken guy with dark, almost black hair. I started off in the 545th in April '67 in a hootch next to the latrine, that sat infront of the water tower, Third row back from the old mess hall. I later moved to the old Blue flight hootch in the row next to the mess hall. I worked with the TIs in maintenance the whole time I was there, Albert Ota, Jim Lawson and later in the new hanger area with Jimmy Johnson {a former 119th crew chief} and Steve Medine. I was the maintenance clerk, the guy that filled out the maintenance requests that the crew chiefs and occasionally pilots brought in to the 545th and later the 119th maintenance office. If you recall the 3 quanset hut buildings that were off to the left of the old hangers, as you faced them, on the main runway. I worked in the middle one, where the blade shop was located in the rear, between the 545 orderly room and the engine shop. I also worked on a maintenance crew early on and later in the machine shop when needed after our machinest ETSed. I had a reputation for my ability to sharpen survival knives to a razor edge, and did it for a bunch of pilots and crew chiefs, maybe you were one of them.

You probably still don't remember me but I still think I remember you.

Your 67N20 buddy
Dave Silk
