Hi guys

Speaking of not talking much - I was chatting with a guy and his wife yesterday who came in on their boat and (finding out earlier from someone else) asked him about being a helo pilot and when he was there in Nam. I immediately wished I hadn't from the look on his face and dropped the subject. Stupid question, but is there a way to ask without inserting foot in mouth?
