As for them dang gars, I snagged one on the Black Cypress Bayou when I was in high school, down by Jefferson. Damn thing was only about 2 foot long, but it ate my brand new bass rod. My dad had a friend used to go bow-fishing and shoot 'em with arrows connected to a reel by a wire line. Said he'd drag 'em up on the bank a safe distance away and then leave 'em for awhile. We had a cousin came down from Oregon (Grants Pass area, Papasan) and saw one cruising by once when we were catfising on Caddo Lake. We told him it was a Texas Pike. He spent years talkin' about them horrific Texas game fish!!
