Family and brotherhood was the name of the game. It wasn't that there was anything wrong with the 189th it was just the fact that you had the feeling of being alone. A pilot's call sign had a mental picture of a face. You could also relate to the crew which flew with him. When you were put in a group which you didn't know you always had doubts. After a month of non-stop action and then to be sent back basicly by yourself it was a lonely feeling.

You must admit that even flying with a new A/C or peter-pilot brought the same feelings. Remember when you got into the flight platoon you were not accepted until you proved yourself. I can't imagine what you must felt being shipped to a new unit and being short at the same time. Talk about becoming a "Head case". Nothing against the 189th but their weren't my brothers in the same way the guys of the 119th were.
