With Maint folks like that who needed charlie. BTW, the MO that went in country with the 189th ( a Major) tried a bunch of stuff that was out of line (Including trying to terorize a tech supply clerk of mine to get a part) and also fouled up an FOB run and eventually was fired by the Bn CO. So I am not surprised at what you found. New folks being over worked and in the dark with an idiot for a boss can cause mistakes. Personally as an MO, I would have given you an Atta boy for your good work, then calledthe crews together and made them inspect all rotating components. Next I personally would have called ever pilot in the out fit together and gone over what they had been missing on the Pre flight inspection and asked them to get their Sh*t together.
