You nailed it, Bob- and I think you misread me.
I didn't expect them to be nice, just good and fair. Most of my time in troop units I had good ones.

Dad was one for several years, until retirement.
Even many years after that, I heard good feedback on him. In fact, I flew out of Cam Rahn seated next to a guy who knew him well.

The best (read: most effective) 1SG I ever new was a 24Karat son-of-a-bear. It seemed nobody liked him, but respected the job he did.
