Re: One Pilot's Perspective
In Response To: Re: One Pilot's Perspective ()

The "high overhead" was also used by the pilots of the 170th AHC on all FOB missions. I did not know it was known as a Corbin spin. While at the 119th I never was on board when a pilot used that manouver. On my first FOB mission with the 170th I learned what it was. I also learned the meaning of the "pucker factor"! After the first high overhead the tightened lower anatony feeling was joined by a real "rush", especially when we pulled out near the trees and kept it on the deck as we were guided to the LZ by the C&C ship. We also used the high overhead at Dak Pek all the time because the other guys had moved in a lot of AA in the hills around it, so you could not come in low and slow.
To this day I am proud of the pilots for the way they handled the aircraft, both in the 119th and the 170th. The way they kept their cool when the S--- hit the fan gave confidence to us guys in back.
