Yeah, that's pretty much the way we did it; except without the left pedal: we were told that might take the boom off, which would complicate the recovery.

The biggest regret I ever had flying the Huey is I never really had a chance to get to know her "technically" the way a pilot should know his aircraft. We were in the air virtually every day, and were just busy on the rare days off. I got a couple of manuals from our Maint. Platoon Leader, Cpt Winston; but only had them about a week before he asked for them back.

A few times I stayed around to help Chris pull filters and change oil, and that was very informative; but usually by the time we got done at Ops after the day's work, it was to a late dinner and not much time for anything else.

And two months after I got back to the World, I accepted the RIF and was a goner. Biggest mistake I ever made.
